Early Life and Career

Born in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on July 19, 1973, Bürgerlich Aílton Gonçalves da Silva, known simply as Ailton, began his professional football career in 1994 with Ypiranga. Known for his prolific goalscoring ability and eccentric style, he quickly made a name for himself in the Brazilian league.

Breakthrough with Werder Bremen

In 2000, Ailton joined German powerhouse Werder Bremen, where he reached the pinnacle of his career. Alongside fellow Brazilian stars Diego and Naldo, he formed a formidable attacking trio that led the club to a Bundesliga-German Cup double in 2004.

Goalscoring Record and Accolades

Ailton's most notable achievement with Werder Bremen was winning the Bundesliga's Golden Boot in the 2003-04 season with 28 goals. His impressive tally earned him the nickname "Der Goalgetter" (The Goalgetter). He also won the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) with the club in 2004.

Later Career and Retirement

After leaving Werder Bremen, Ailton played for several other clubs in Germany, Austria, and China before retiring in 2011. He remains a fan favorite in Bremen and is fondly remembered for his contributions to the club's golden era.

Following his retirement, Ailton has remained involved in football as a pundit and coach.
